The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is a leading professional membership association for licensed architects based in Washington since 1857. The company serves as the voice of the architecture profession.
The Committee on Design (COD) promotes design excellence amongst members of the AIA abroad, and thereby we welcomed them in London for their promotion. The client specified that they expect clean, safe and well-equipped accommodations over the course of four days.
LDA decided upon the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London hotel for the client, accommodating for 31 meeting rooms and more than 1000 guestrooms. This stylish and centrally located hotel provided a vast number of amenities, from the Fitness Centre to the Spa. For the first day, we planned for the group to engage in a boat tour experience. With the MBNA Thames Clippers, who provide charters for corporate companies, groups and individuals for up to 220 passengers, we were able to do so. Luxury coaches were used throughout the four days, accommodating for 34 seats - perfect for the guests’ transfers.
On the second day, we welcomed the guests with a beautiful breakfast at the Hotel St Pancras Renaissance. This luxury 5-star hotel was a perfect setting for a meeting. It has 10 rooms and the largest one can seat up to 325 guests. The hotel has an amazing façade and inside, a blending of Victorian splendour with modern style and service. Later on, they had lunch at the historic pub nearby St Pancras, the Parcel Yard. With an exclusive hire, it can host until 110 people.
Moreover, a visit was made to the British Museum and dinner eaten at the contemporary European restaurant, the Magazine. The guests were very impressed by the architecture of the restaurant, with the dining room having a flowing membrane roof and columns that flooded natural light into the room. Culinary speaking, the international cuisine and high quality standard impressed the guests. The Event Concept, an event production agency specialising in design and technical production, assisted LDA to provide all the necessary services for the guests at this restaurant. From design to staging through the decor and styling, they did a remarkable job.
On the following day, LDA organised for the group to go to the London Eye, one of the must-see attractions in London, as well as the Queen Elisabeth Olympic Park, with its vast type of parkland, waterways, venues and attractions. These venues also have a full programme of events and activities all year round. Later on, lunch was planned at the Gun pub, with its riverside and outdoor terrace warmly welcoming its guests. To conclude the day, the guests indulged in a reception with canapés at Tower Bridge, looking out upon the remarkable views from 45 metres high.
On the last day, we organised the guests to visit the iconic Covent Garden and city centre, in order to discover other areas of London, ending with an exquisite dinner at the Shangri-La Hotel in the Shard. The guests ate their dinner in the Ren, the largest private room for dinner with a space for 140 guests, overlooking the majestic River Thames and the City of London.
The Guildhall was chosen for the Gala Dinner of the group. It has been the City powerhouse since the twelfth century. With 5 amazing rooms, including the Great Hall, the largest one which can accommodate up to 700 guests for dinner, the Guildhall offers the best venues.
