‘An East Side Story’–How new 4 and 5 Star meeting & event venues are returning to the ‘City Of London’

Some 600 years ago , as London was developing as a leading trading nation of the world , Livery companies (London’s ancient and modern trade associations and guilds) were establishing Livery Halls and meeting venues in the heart of the City of London ( The Square Mile). There are still around 110 livery companies in trades such as Goldsmiths , Grocers , Brewers and Bakers .

They evolved into corporations responsible for training as well as regulating their respective trades, such as wage control, labour conditions and industry standards. Over 40 have established Halls (venues) where they still hold meetings and events both for their respective trades as well as for outside corporate events .

Fast forward to present day and  there has been a ‘new expansion ’ of fabulous event spaces and hotels coming to ‘The City’ an area, that since the 19th Century , has been the headquarters for many UK and global financial institutions, Law and Insurance companies .This has created a ‘new London’ – ‘Destination Eastside’- with  4 and 5 star meeting and event hotels opening in some of the historic landmark buildings as well as amazing venues housed in brand new state of the art ‘London skyscrapers’

Venues like The Sky Garden and Landing Forty Two – two are housed in two of the newest skyscrapers ( known affectionately as the ‘Walkie Talkie’ and ‘Cheesegrater’ buildings).

At the same time , the hotel scene is booming and one of  the most eagerly anticipated openings of 2017,situated next to Bank tube station will be the Soho House/Sydell designed and operated The Ned arriving in Spring 2017 . An iconic building  designed by Sir Edwin ‘Ned’ Lutyens, with 252 bedrooms, nine restaurants, rooftop and indoor swimming pools, a gym, spa and hamam. The building was the former offices of Midland Bank and is simply stunning !!

The Ned will offer an ideal location for Incentives or events looking to explore London , and experience this Unique part of London , so rich in history and architectural gems .

Four Seasons are opening Ten Trinity Square  in another stunning 1920s building with 100 rooms and  stunning meeting all  a short walk to the Tower of London.

Locally based hotel groups are also making some  statement openings in this part of London with Montcalm opening the Royal London House which will have over 200 rooms and a roof terrace and bar .

and with Dorsett City and the ‘uber hip ‘ Citizen M also opening ,the City of London is seeing as experiencing a real ‘hotel renaissance ‘

Just outside the ‘City of London’ , in Shoreditch (think Manhattan East Village) there are three equally unique and very individual properties that would be great to consider for maybe those ‘second time to London’ groups. Nobu , open their eagerly awaited and first London hotel in 2017, The Curtain ,operated By Gansevoort Hotel Group will offer 120 rooms a roof top pool and  The Red Rooster restaurant, an offshoot of Marcus Samuelsson’s Harlem restaurant.

( Manhattan cool meets East London cool !)

Finally the very unique and individual Courthouse Hotel Shoreditch recently opened .Built in Edwardian times, this was the old Magistrates Court and Police Station ! Your groups can use the VIP booths in the bar where prison cells are for cocktails.

LDA Design DMC UK are based in the heart of all this Eastside excitement , in Shoreditch , and we would love to show you ‘our side ‘ of London and with the fantastic contrasts of Old meets new meets luxury , this is a side of London you must consider for your next event .
